This little article has been setting on the corner of my desk for awhile, I was hoping, wishing, waiting for something more to add to it as it is rather short. It is enormous if you think about “why” Sam Goldwyn needed to see Mabel Normand and begin to
imagine what poor Herbert Errell thought as he pick-up Mabel and deposited her in Sam’s office. Sam wrote on a photo of himself that he gave to Mabel that he loved and adored her… perhaps not Mabel’s work ethic.
When would this memory have happen? I think it must have been near the end of her time at the Culver City Studios, the candid photos of her being feed ice cream by her director, making music with the band; playing leapfrog with cast and crew; then there is a picture of her riding her bike on the
lot; and yes the photos of her and her Indian motorcycle; and the pictures of Mabel rolling around with her pet chow on the studio lawn, so many infractions and so much fun. She must have been like some
undisciplined puppy or perhaps a rebellious kitten.

It seems that everyone had vivid memories of Mabel, no one forgot her. Twenty years after, she was physically carried by the janitor into the studio's executive offices, I am sure Bert smiled at the telling.
