Madcap Mabel Normand

In June of 2005 I posted this at the Mabel Normand Yahoo Group

when I was asked about the relationship between Mabel & Olive....

.... It has a little timeline I did.

YES, Olive Thomas and Mabel Normand were friends.

Mabel kept photos of Olive in her livingroom. Although they never worked together, they did in fact play together.

Mabel made a sweet little film with Olive husband Jack Pickford while still at Biograph in 1912 called What the Doctor Ordered on the way to Mt. Lowe.

Olive died in Paris in 1920....So away, Mabel and Olive were in New York in those heady days when Mabel was a much sought after model said to be one of the beauties. Olive actually held the official most beautiful girl in New York title . Mabel was just one year older the Olive. As you know Olive was a Ziegfeld Follies star when she was signed by Triangle in 1916 but by 1916 Mabel was working in New York and then came to California to make Mickey. Jack and Olive were also married in 1916 and had a happy and turbulent next four years together. Olive was a real movie star in 1920 and so was Mabel.

There is a lovely documentary done by Timeline Films on Olive, see it if you haven’t.

A little time line Mabel & Oliver both in:
1917 April Los Angeles
1918 September - October New York
1919 January - March Los Angeles
1920 April - June Los Angeles

Mabel was at Olives funeral that fall when the body was shipped from Paris to New York.  And in November at the auction.
