 Alexandria Hotel

 

 

501 South Spring Street, Los Angeles, California

It is in downtown Los Angeles; Mabel made films here and

danced in the Ballroom, a little seedy now.

 

Ambassador Hotel

3400 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles California

It opened in 1921 and was the home of the Coconut Grove. 

Everyone, who was anyone stayed there.  There was even a

theater with the hotel.  Mabel made her home in bungalow number

two for almost a year.  The bungalows were on the front lawn of the

Hotel but have been removed.

 

THE ROSCOE ARBUCKLE PLANTATION CAFE

 

1700 Washington Blvd. (just west of) Culver City, California

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Roscoe Arbuckle opened the “Roscoe Arbuckle Plantation Café”

in 1928 and it was closed in 1930.  When it opened Mabel sent a

floral tribute in the form of a bigger then life image of Arbuckle.

 

 

 

Rialto Theater

812 S. Broadway Blvd. Los Angeles, California

Sid Gruman purchased this nickelodeon in 1918. 

 

Egyptian Theater

6712 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood California

 

Sid Gruman built this theater in 1922. Mabel in her ermine and white

satin went with Paul Bern at the première of Fairbanks’s The Thief

of Baghdad here.

 

Chinese Theater

6801 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood California

 

Sid Gruman courtyard holds the hand and footprints of many

film stars, not Mabel’s.  It was built in 1927, after Mabel had retired.

Mabel’s star is just a little east at 6821 Hollywood.

 

MISSION THEATER

 

 

842 S. Broadway Blvd. Los Angeles, California

 

 

Mack Sennett owned this theater and premièred Molly O’ November

30, 1921 to a very receptive audience. Sennett purchased the Spanish

style Victory Theater in 1920.  The Victory was an early Vaudeville

house. The Mission certainly didn't 'remain long’; as the Orpheum Theatre

opened on 15th February 1926 and I presume it must have taken at least

a year to remodel.

 

MUSSO & FRANK’S GRILL

6667 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood

 

This was a “watering hole” known to all the early film people including

Mabel.  It was established in 1919 the style has remained very authentic.
